Grade: 2.5 out of 5 (Satisfactory)

Rationale: There are only a handful of Japanese anime movies or TV series that I like because the plot and animation have to be just right for me. Spirited Away meets those criteria to a point, but not fully. The animation is fine. I didn’t think it was anything to write home about. The plot is a bit odd for my liking, though. I’m not really into spirits, beasts, gods, and demons so that’s where Spirited Away lost me. The “growing up” theme for the main character Chihiro was written well and her transformation throughout was apparent. Guess I’ll stick with the anime I already know and love.
