Rationale: The best part about This Is Spinal Tap is if you don’t know this is a satire, it’s not hard to fall for the joke and think it’s real. The acting is very convincing and the humor dry enough that it comes off in an almost convincing, semi serious way. Sadly it’s a bit on the short side, but very well done and leaves you wanting more.

Rationale: Unlike Chicago and Cabaret, two musical movies that I enjoyed watching, West Side Story felt like a pure musical you'd see in a performing arts theater, which was not what I expected or wanted to watch. There didn’t seem to be much of a separation of the musical numbers or dancing from the actual story, where as in Chicago and Cabaret, there’s a distinct story with specific cut away scenes for singing and dancing. When I’m watching a movie, I expect an adaptation designed for cinema, not something I could see on a stage.

Movies I Hadn't Seen Before

Going into this project I knew that I had already seen a chunk of movies that were considered to be among the best ever, but there were plenty of movies I hadn't seen before that had that distinction as well. This project helped fill those gaps and it forced/encouraged me to watch movies outside of my normal viewing comfort zone.

Below is the list of movies I hadn't seen before I started to watch the top 251 movies of all time and the grade I gave the movie. There are quite a few big names on this list, including classics like Gone With the Wind and Casablanca as well as more recent hits from the past couple of decades like Braveheart and The Departed. The list averaged a grade of 2.799 out of 5 so there were clearly some duds, but there were also gems I'm glad to include among my personal favorite movies going forward.
